“I
Loved Lucy” Author at Old Pros Meeting September
9
What is it like to be one of a
legend’s closest friends? Lee Tannen, author of the
best-selling book ‘I Loved Lucy’ and play of
the same title with its world premiere at the Laguna
Playhouse, will answer that question and more at The Old
Pros meeting on Thursday, September 9th at 4:00 pm in CH 3 DR 2.
Having been her friend and confidant in the last decade
of Lucille Ball’s life, when she was out of the
spotlight, Lee knew her as few people did. He reveals
just what it was like to be the friend of this comic
powerhouse who could also be stubborn, philosophical,
affectionate, mercurial, vulnerable, and very human. Lee
and Lucy’s dynamic, funny and poignant relationship
is the basis for ‘I Loved Lucy.’
Lee will speak about his path to writing the book and the
show, what it was like to bring the book to stage and
tidbits of his life with Lucy. A question and answer
period will follow that affords a wonderful opportunity
to speak with Lee in person. Refreshments will be served.
Members are free, guests pay $3.00

Old Pros Present a
“Not Your Mother’s
Shakespeare”
“This is not your
mother’s Shakespeare,” exclaims director
David Dearing about The Old Pros September 19th &
20th performances of ‘Lovers in Midsummer,’ a
condensed short-and-sweet adaptation of William
Shakespeare’s beloved and oft performed comedy,
‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream.’
“This Shakespeare is user-friendly. The words are
easy to understand and following the plot is a walk in
the park.”
Audiences will be seated in the woods of Athens as the
play begins, and become part of the action as the play
unfolds. The woods abound with colorful characters:
fairies, lovers falling in and out of love, mischievous
spirits, ‘thingummies’, pretentious parents
who try to arrange marriages and their contumacious
children who try to disarrange them, Puck who can’t
help but muck things up and Fairy Queen Titania who must
fix them. Mistaken identity is the order of the day
(“The course of true love never did run
smooth”) as are fairies who watch the mistakes with
laughter (“Lord, what fools these mortals
be”).
Some delectable Renaissance refreshments and a lot of
delicious laughter add up to a festive and fun evening
for all. Performances at CH 7 will be on Sunday,
September 19th and Monday, September 20th at 7:00 pm.
Tickets are $7.00 and may be obtained in person at the CH
3 Old Pros ticket table, from 10 AM to 12 PM, Monday
through Friday, starting September 6th through September
17th. By mail: send checks made out to ‘The Old
Pros’ at Box #2543, Laguna Hills, CA 92654. To
receive tickets, please include name, address & phone
#. For further information, call 949-940-9265.
